The roles and responsibility

I am responsible for managing and providing the 24 X 7 support for all the 178  Production/UAT/Dev/Training SQL Server/Web servers which are been used by 16 different application and access by more than 4000 users all over the world by  Microsoft Consultant.

 

The main responsibilities are at the SQL Server which includes all core activity. Making the SQL Server available for maximumn time with SQL Clustering,Log Shipping and Replication.Also Performance Tuning(Indexes, longtime taking queries, DTS, Job  Scheduling, Database Creation, managing   roles and responsibilities, Backup and restore, monitoring individual database for the data growth, Auditing of the Server after upgrading(according to policies of MS),applying the security patch at the OS level, applying security patch to database to safe guard the database.

My current organization and previous organization detail

Since 

12 March 2003- till Date (Months: 20):Working as a Production Support System Analyst for Microsoft Corporation at Hyderabad (R & D) from Satyam Computers Services Limited.

 

October 2002-10 March 2003 (Months: 6):Worked as a SQL DBA (SQL Sever Consultant) for ICICI Bank from A3TL.

 

Responsibility:

Providing solution and solving problem related to MSSQL SERVER for their SQL DATABASE. Providing financial data to corporate people for monthly progress of bank in various businesses sector.

The core activity handled during these projects is

·         Designing of the database.

·         Capacity planning.

·         Performance tuning.

·         Creating views depends on the requirement of the financial performance result for different period of the branches spread across India.

·         Sending the data to the Branch Manager for the verification of the major transaction done in different currency from their branches into the required format (html, excel, xml ).The databases handled for the application called Perform has the size of 27GB.The database is taking the data from various sources in the form of flat file which is coming from the different branches (300 Branches on daily basis). Some of the data were captured from the Oracle database and which is done with the help of SQL 2000 DTS.

 

August 2002-October 2002 (Months: 3)

Worked as a Database Administrator for WIPRO through InfoTech Network System. 

 

Responsibility:

Solving the performance issue for application in HDFC Bank at Central Processing  Unit (CPU at Bombay).

During the Contract some specific activity was given which are as under.

·         Calculating the database size growth on daily basis and showing to the client on which branch the number of transaction are more so that it will be helpful for them to providing more customer services and giving more facility in the form of opening ATM machine.

·         If the ATM is going of network then prediction of the customer transaction loosed during that time based on the last 3 month analysis and informs the IT department for the same for improving the Network in different region. Size of the database handled is 40GB.

 

August 1999-June 2002 (Months: 34)

Worked as a Database Administrator (Data Base SQL 7.0, SQL 2000)For US Based Company ProcessBiz Technologies (India) Pvt. Ltd developing products and providing software solution.

 

Responsibility:

Major responsibilities include, going through the clients' requirements, software requirement specifications (SRS) and coming up with logical and physical database designs and normalized data structures. We use SQL Server diagramming features for data modeling and for documenting the database design. Apart from this I'm involved in various other activities like:

·         Installing different versions of SQL Server custom configured to the needs of different development teams

·         Helping the developers connect to SQL Server and troubleshooting connectivity issues.

·         Analyzing the clients' requirements and coming up with optimal database design. Ensuring data integrity and referential integrity by using constraints and/or triggers.

·         Creating stored procedures for custom data access.

·         Setting up BACKUP/RESTORE and disaster recovery procedures to ensure minimal downtime and data loss.

·         Coming up with optimal query mechanism to avoid deadlocks and blocking and if they do occur troubleshooting them.

·         Creating database users, controlling access to SQL Server and making sure right people get access to right data, and looking after the security issues.

·         Setting up data replication between SQL Servers as well as from SQL Server to dissimilar data sources like Access, Oracle.

·         Using data transformation services to move data between different sources and transform data according to out needs.

·         Upgrading/upsizing databases from different DBMS and versions to current version of SQL Server.

·         Documenting all the server and database related information.

·         Introducing latest news about the database features through the Intranet facility.
